什麼都忘了

這幾天來一直處在行屍走肉的狀態,我指的不是渾渾噩噩、無所事事的心理消極;我是發現我的腦袋運作又開始秀逗了,中英文的文法跟字詞常常想不起來,閱讀也是如此,語文能力直接歸零,即使母語也是。

更甚者,我連自己的名字都有點記不起來了,我今天把自己的名字寫錯好幾次,而且不是筆誤所照成的,是我對這名字開始有陌生的感覺,就像在寫別人的名字一樣。天啊!壓力有這麼大嗎?有事嗎你!

張三豐說只要能把老爸姓啥都忘記,就是練成太極拳了!阿我想問:連自己的名字都沒記住,是不是代表我快成仙了?

[Ubuntu] SSH without password

The spirit is: Put your public key, say id_rsa.pub, into the target machine’s list, say authorized_key.  Please node that this is one-way function, if you want mutual password-free ssh connections, do it again in opposite direction!

Example:
server_node
client_node

server_node to client_node

Generate private and public keys from server
server_node$: ssh-keygen
Leave all the setting default by pressing enter (you can also enter a strong passphrase for security)
Send the key to the client
ssh-copy-id client_node
This is a shortcut to 
1. copy the the public key (id_rsa.pub) to the client_node 
server_node$: scp ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub client_node/.ssh
2. copy the contend of id_rsa.pub from server_node to the list (authorized_key) in the client_node
client_node$: cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys

Test whether it works
server_node$: ssh client_node

If you are required to enter password/passphrase, do the following
server_node$:  sudo apt-get install keychain

Add the following to your ~/.bashrc (depend on your shell)
if type keychain >/dev/null 2>/dev/null; then      keychain --nogui -q id_rsa      [ -f ~/.keychain/${HOSTNAME}-sh ] && . ~/.keychain/${HOSTNAME}-sh      [ -f ~/.keychain/${HOSTNAME}-sh-gpg ] && . ~/.keychain/${HOSTNAME}-sh-gpg
If you encounter syntax problems, please check the indent, make sure the indent are 4 spaces.


This is just one way process, if you want to mutual password-free, do it again on the client_node.  OR copy your .ssh files file server_node to client_node.

NOTE: If you manually copy id_rsa.pub, be aware of not overriding the key, rename the name before transmitting.

The use of 'learned' and 'learnt'

Today, when I was revising my statement of purpose (SOP), I felt confused how to use the word 'learnt' correctly, and I think the information in this post is more convincing.

In short, 'learnt' is the past tense of the verb 'learn' in British/European English, whereas 'learned' is the past participle of the verb 'learn' and (sometimes) can regarded as the past tense verb in American English.

BTW, you cannot use 'learnt' as an adjective neither.  Use 'learned'.

For example:
I want to learn French. (correct)
I learnt French last summer. (correct, more British)
I learned French last summer. (ok in American English)
I have learned French since last summer. (correct)
I have learnt French since last summer. (INCORRECT)

To sum up:
learned: past tense verb (American), past participle, adjective.
learnt: past tense verb (British/European).

I would like to use them in this way:
simple present verb - learn
simple past verb - learnt
past particle - learned
adjective - learned

身體若不好,人生和學習都會是黑白的

在連續暴肝以後,我的身體終於在大抗議了,今天曠課了一天,有一堂課還是要報告的...


我是個身體越差就會越胖的人,這兩個月來我的體脂已經從16暴增到接近19了,這還是在每週至少有運動兩天的情況下喔!我也知道我太勞累(特別是熬夜)的話,會有心悸的情況,心臟會痛,這我也知道。而今天是第一次遇到這種情況:除了左胸以外,連右胸也有感覺了,我甚至沒有辦法坐起來看書。於是只好果斷的翹掉早上的機器學習課程,好讓身體休息。

幸好,補眠了幾個小時以後,心痛的情況紓緩很多,但是勒...
在硬是起床把下午要用的簡報處理了一下之後,去小歇一下的結果就是...


哈囉!吃晚餐了喔~~


囧大了,我的學習、我的身體。

[食譜] 麻油雞 black sesame oil chicken soup

麻油雞(或稱燒酒雞、雞酒),簡單來說就是使用胡麻油(和老薑)提香的雞湯,主要是用來冬令進補、或是婦女坐月子(胡麻油可幫助子宮收縮)。
Black seasame oil chicken soup is a famous, traditional Chinese cuisine, very popular in Winter days (to warm up body).  It is also recommended for women after menstruation or childbirth.

我一樣是寫比較道地口味的作法,然後會在後面FAQ補充可調整的部份。
In this post, I will make it more authentic, you can also make some changes to fit your preference, I will put some suggestions in the FAQ section.
I strongly recommend you to read the FAQ before start if you have no idea about this dish (do not waste food).

食材Ingredients

Chicken
老薑
Ginger
胡麻油(胡麻油大多是黑芝麻,香油大多是白芝麻,為了怕有人搞混,所以我特別寫胡麻油而不是簡稱麻油)
Black sesame oil
米酒
Rice wine(widely used in many Chinese cuisines)
其他的油,如沙拉油或橄欖油(不要用胡麻或初榨橄欖油)
another kind of oil e.g. oliver oil (never use "Extra virgin", it is for cool dishes)
糖,可有可無
Sugar(optional)


步驟Steps

1. 把老薑外皮刷洗乾淨,切薄片;或是把它拍碎(越薄會越入味)
Clean and slice (or squash) the ginger (the thiner ginger, then stronger flavor of it)


2. 熱鍋以後,單下雞皮逼出雞油,或是直接下沙拉油(如果你雞皮的量不夠或懶得皮肉分離的話)
Fry the chicken skin to get some oil from it. Or just use your oliver oil

3. 煸炒薑片,炒出香味,此時火不要太大
Fry the ginger with medium temperature.

4. 下雞肉炒至變色(半生熟)
Fry the chicken quickly, do not make it done.

換個大的鍋子(嗯,因為我這邊只有平底鍋,如果你是圓的那種就不用),加入胡麻油跟米酒。不要加水!!!
Use your pot, add black seasame oil and LOTS of rice wine. NO WATER!!!

6. 大火煮滾後轉小火悶雞肉
Boil the soup, then lower the temperature to make the chicken more soft.

7. 放點糖據說可以讓口味溫和一點,不要放鹽!
Add some sugar, NO SALT!

8. 單吃太燥或太無趣的話也可以加點高麗菜、菇類、麵線、枸杞之類的(推薦可加麵線、因為裡面有內建鹽巴)
You can also add other ingredients such as mushrooms, vegetables, etc.

FAQ

Q1:
我不喜歡這麼辣的味道耶?不加水不加鹽?你是喝醉了嗎??
Excuse me, I think it is bland and too hot.  Did I make it wrong? Can I add some salt or spice, or water?

Ans:
傳統補品是沒在加鹽的,而且正統麻油雞如果加水的話應該會被我們這種酒鬼大聲問候喔。不過呢!料理當然是吃的高興最重要,不夠味的話就在起鍋前加鹽,太辣或不喜歡酒味就加點水也是很ok的!
Yes! It is hot! Because it is the authentic one (remember? we eat it to warm up body).  However, you are more than welcome to add salt, reduce the wine, add some water etc.  Just make it tasty and enjoy it!

Q2:
為什麼不是直接用麻油去炒?要用另一種油?
Why you use two kinds of oil?

Ans:
胡麻油不耐高溫,所以要換一種油去炒,不然會苦

[OSX] MacVim

The way I see it, as a programmer, it is strongly recommended that use plain text editor to develop at the beginning; By doing so, you won't rely on the IDE too much thus you learn more fundamental and important things.

On the other hand, when the project become larger and larger, a powerful IDE is needed to help us to solve boring and trivial things such as file renaming, auto-completion, syntax highlighting, indent checking, etc.

But sometimes, I just want to write a simple script! And I don't want a  plain text editor nor complicated IDE.  So I need a powerful text editor with some fancy plugins like auto-completion, indent checking.
Today, I want to write down some notes to set up MacVim, Macintosh version of vim,


vim configuration:
~/.vimrc

MacVim configuration
~/.gvimrc

MacVim will load .vimrc first, then .gvimrc, so put general configuration in .vimrc, and set up GUI in .gvimrc.


Install MacVim via MacPort rather than official website:
sudo port install macvim + cscope + python27

[Git] How to use git on bitbucket

What?
Git is a distributed version control system, widely used for software developing, can work locally or remotely.  In a joint project, people usually use a git server for team cooperation so that the members can synchronize the source and logs remotely.

The most popular git server might be github, free and well-developed; however, you need to pay for the private repositories.

Bitcket is another solution for those newbies like me to try git.  The private repositories are free of charge, although they can be only accessed by 5 members at most, that should be enough for a small project :)

How it works?

  1. Let your local directory be a git directory
  2. Make ssh connection between this directory to a remote one on bitbucket
  3. Synchronize the sources between the remote and local repositories on different clients 

Setup
Install git on your client
For OSX

Register an account and create a repository, assuming
account: spencerimp
repository: icelandictionary
local dir: /home/spencer/iceland (yes, both of the names can be different to the remote)

Add your ssh key to the bitbucket so that you do not need to enter the password every time
ssh-keygen
Use default file (/home/spencer/.ssh/id_rsa)
Enter your passphrase
Copy your content of public key (~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub)
cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
Paste the key to your bitbucket account (Manage account -> SSH keys -> Add SSH key)













Edit your  ~/.ssh/config
~/.ssh/config
Host bitbucket.org IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa
Note: There is a space before IdentityFile
Note2: If you encounter problem locate the ~/.ssh directory with your GUI, try it via the following command:
vim ~/.ssh/config
press i
type or paste the text
press esc, then press :wq and enter

If you are using Linux, add the following into ~/.bashrc (of course, based on what shell you are using)

Simple case
Initialize the local directory
git init
Add the remote repository to your project
(the origin is a alias for the remote repository, you can also change it)
git remote add origin git@bitbucket.org:spencerimp/icelandictionary.git
Assign the sources to be synchronized (in this case, all of them)
git add .
if you want to remove (unmonitor) some sources
git rm unwanted_file_path
Untrack a directory
git rm -r --cached your_directory
Log the change of all your (monitored) files with a message
git commit -am 'Eyjan mín!!' 
Upload (the master branch) to the remote (origin) repository
git push origin master
Update/Synchronize the local (master) branch with remote (origin) repository
git pull origin master
Remove your last commit, and you have to commit again for your new modification
git reset HEAD^
Show the tracked file list
git ls-files

Want to reset the git? 
Just delete the .git directory!

Rule of thumb
Push before leave.  Pull before start.

[Linux] Mount a samba directory with write permission

Why?
Once you have a samba server (e.g. NAS) to store your data remotely, you might not satisfied by using the ftp to access your data.  You can mount the remote directory to your client machine, and use it as if locally.

My case
Client OS: Ubuntu 12.04
Example:
Server: nas.spencer.com
Remote directory: /home/data
Remote account: spencer
Local account: spencer_local
Local directory: /home/spencer/localDic

You might need to install the cifs-utils first
sudo apt-get install cifs-utils
Create your local directory if not exist
sudo mkdir /home/spencer/localDic
Check your uid
id -u spencer_local
%assume it is 1005 
Mount the directory using remote account and local uid to set the permission easily and correctly.
sudo mount -t cifs //nas.spencer.com/home/data /home/spencer_local/localDic -o username=spencer,uid=1005
If you want to unmount the directory
sudo umount /home/spencer_local/localDic

You can also assign permission like this:

sudo mount -t cifs //nas.spencer.com/home/data /home/spencer_local/localDic -o username=spencer,uid=1005,file_mode=0664,dir_mode=0775


Note:
1. You cannot use the ip of your server because of a bug in this linux kernel.
2. This post supposed to work under other Unix-like OS as well.

[Linux] Run GUI on command-line-only server

Why?
When you need to connect to a linux server, which does not support GUI, to use the computational power and programs but still want to use the GUI of some programs (not the entire OS).  For example, Matlab, Eclipse.

X11 is what your want! With the help of X11, you can use run your program on a remote server but open a GUI on your client machine using the resource (X11) locally.  In short, you just need to install X11 on your client machine.

How it works?
Install X11 on your client machine, and connect to your server with a special ssh connection.

For Linux & OSX
Just add an option -X in your ssh connection command
ssh -X spencer@yourmachine.com

then you can use your program (e.g. Matlab) with a GUI in this session.
Window (via putty)
Add an option 'Enable X11 Forwarding' in the left panel























If it does not work, you need to install X11 first.  I install it via Cygwin with just several clicks while installing the packages.  Then you can try it again (still use the putty).

Why?
Although most of the cross-platform software have a Windows version; however, we may still get in trouble. So, a simulated interface is needed! Cygwin is a popular solution, by using the Cygwin, you can use those commands only under Linux system, such as 'ls', 'make', etc.

水果攤國際觀

我柏林家的隔壁是一家土耳其人開的水果攤,瓜香果豔,我是常客。柏林觀光客多,水果攤老闆說德文與土耳其文,但不說英文,面對各種國籍的旅客秤斤算錢時,手擺腳動取代語言,英文、西班牙文、中文、德文、法文、日文都出現過,水果攤每天都非常國際。外語有時是溝通飛蚊,叮人滿頭包;但溝通有礙常常也是樂趣,拘謹的文明身體都忽然必須開始演戲,光是微笑哪足夠,快快召喚梅莉‧史翠普來附身,舞動肢體,只求跨過洶湧的外語河。

一次我來買菜,前面的客人與土耳其老闆正身陷語言迷宮裡,客人說著文法亂、有濃重口音的英文,老闆則一直以德文回覆,客人的焦急燒著,都快把手中的綠芒果給催熟了。老闆看到我,急忙請我幫忙,有我這個臨時口譯當橋,兩人終於達成買賣理解。

這位說英文的客人向我道謝,接著問我:「為什麼他們都不會說英文呢?好奇怪。」我答:「因為你在德國。這裡,人們說德文。」

其實,我面前這位買水果客人,本身英文也紊亂,口音濃重,文法錯亂,但他卻覺得在德國柏林賣水果的老闆應該要會說英文,這邏輯很奇怪,自己都不太行的事,怎麼會要求人家一定要做到呢?我想,這位先生大概就是覺得「英文是國際共通語言」,而忘了去尊重每個國家對於自己母語的保有與使用。

幾年前,我在柏林採訪台灣某知名大學校長,他或許是旅途勞累,態度有些傲慢。問他這幾天在柏林的經驗,他皺眉抱怨:「怎麼德國英文標示這麼少?這樣誰看得懂啊?」那時我才發現,原來我們一直重視英文教育,到最後卻培養出了只以英文為世界中心的人才,他們把英文當做是唯一合理的外語想像,來到柏林看不懂標示,卻沒想過,這些標示其實主要是給本地人看的。

我不禁想,學外語,不是為了培養大家一天到晚強調的「國際觀」嗎?不是為了跟國際接軌嗎?不是為了讓自己世界更開闊嗎?怎麼這位校長,人身在德國,心中卻只剩下了英文?

大學時打工賺生活費,我當英文家教,也在補習班教兒童美語,因此眼見過許多心急的家長,擔心自己的小孩英文學不好,會被全球化浪潮給遠遠拋在後,長大後一定會被徹底淘汰,因此督促小孩努力背英文單字。有位媽媽讓我印象特別深刻,她的小孩上的幼稚園是標榜雙語的幼稚園,上小學後請美國人來家裡當語言家教,小孩放學後還來補習班學英文。我發現這位小孩的確是會說英文,乍聽似乎是不錯流利的英文,但文法組織破碎。在課堂上,這位小孩的讀寫完全不行。幾堂課之後,我發現他的中文也很差,母語句構紊亂,英文也沒學好,語言築起了成長障礙。我跟媽媽聊天,我覺得讓小孩停學英文一陣子,先好好把自己的母語的城堡蓋得穩固,再來學英文根本不遲。我說:「我十三歲上國中才開始學英文啊,其實學外語這件事跟起跑早晚並沒有一定關連。」但媽媽不聽,只想要換掉美國家教。我想介紹一位朋友去應徵,但朋友是美國華人,媽媽看了,竟然跟我說:「我只想要請美國人。」原來在這位媽媽心中,美國人就等於白人,其他皮膚顏色的都不算。心胸狹隘的媽媽,想把小孩推向全球,其實,卻只教育了偏見。

學英文當然很重要,英文的普遍性不用多說,英文學好,可以讀的書倍增,聽到的聲音也不會只限於母語,世界可能會因此更遼闊。尤其時台灣此時此刻,媒體失靈,新聞台狂播瑣碎雜事,埃及的動盪在電視上出現的頻率根本比不上某位小明星的情事,如果擁有英文能力,就能透過網路接收英文媒體的資訊,自己主動去了解這世界正在如何轉動。

但是,外語,並不等同於英文。這世界上,還有許許多多的語言,影響力不見得比英文小。若有機會學習英文之外的外語,一定會發現不同的語言會有不同的境地與角度。例如,美國出兵伊拉克,以美國為主的媒體就會使用「解放」,但其他國家的媒體使用的字眼卻是「侵略」或「攻擊」,動詞不同,歷史的角度就徹底翻轉。

台灣是個島國,政治位置孤立,對於「國際觀」我們有一定的焦慮。我們努力申請舉辦國際賽事,全民學英文。島嶼四處都有英文標示,但拼音紊亂,錯誤百出。我們一直努力拼觀光,英文標示堆疊,但就算全島都有精良正確的英文標示,就會吸引大量的國際觀光客前來嗎?

我記得我拜訪過的義大利的海邊小鎮、法國南部的小山城、還有捷克湖邊小村,當地沒有任何英文標示,菜單沒有英文版本,居民說著自己當地的語言,但,卻還是有源源不絕的訪客前來。因為這些地方有驚人的人文景觀,文化底蘊深厚,他們根本不用急著「國際化」,照自己生活步調過日子,煮家傳的菜,唱奶奶教的歌。

其實,「國際觀」就是理性的好奇心,不是八卦獵奇,而是以尊重理解的視角,願意花時間去了解世界上正在發生的那些殘酷戰事、出版了哪些文學書、拍了什麼反應社會的電影、選出了什麼政治人物。因為世界很大,語言繁星,傾聽世界之後,或許,我們終於也願意去為世界做點無私的奉獻。

但其實不見得一定英文好才會有所謂的「國際觀」,我身邊就有幾位柏林或台灣朋友,真是沒天份學外文,學英文等於被抓去撞牆。但他們勤讀翻譯書籍,知曉的世界,絕對比認為「英文標示等於國際化」的校長還要寬廣。

所以,勤奮學習但卻依然無法駕馭英文,其實不是悲劇。重點是好奇心沒被磨損攪碎,不懂沒關係,還可以翻字典或讀翻譯。不是英文考一百分,腦子就會長出「國際觀」區塊。「國際觀」是了解,讓我們學習從他人的角度來看世界,於是我們不自大,因為耳朵裡不是只有自己的獨白。

隔壁的水果攤依然每日上演語言戲碼,他繼續說著德文或者土耳其文,回答各國旅客。問他要不要學英文?他說:「英文不是問題,西瓜甜不甜才是問題!」

說的好。

台灣百歲逆時針青春超人!趙慕鶴 爺爺。

趙慕鶴40歲當學校工友。 75歲當背包客,暢遊英、德、法國。 93歲到醫院做2年志工。 95歲考上研究所,98歲拿到碩士畢業,名列吉尼斯紀錄。 100歲他的書法被大英圖書館收藏。 101歲在香港辦書法展,並且成為暢銷書作者!活著必須創造奇蹟!

朋友:「老趙,你都要死了,還學什麼電腦?」
老趙:「可是,我現在還活著啊!」
  
“我住四樓”。 “四樓?”“對,每天爬上爬下有個十來趟。”說話的人,民國百年(2011年)正好滿100歲,但生活起居全都自理,神采奕奕,健步如常人,他是青春老超人──趙慕鶴。

2009年,98歲的他從南華大學哲學研究所取得碩士學位;念研究所之前,93歲在醫院當志工;志工之前,92歲才從空中大學畢業,也是國內最年長的大學畢業生。 “活到老,學到老”在他身上得到最深刻的驗證。 “我知道我可以的,”趙慕鶴說,“決定要做什麼事情,就要狠一點,否則做不成。”他勇敢嘗試人生,除了求學,也用於旅行。

74歲時,他獨自到歐洲自助旅行。不懂英文,也不會電腦,出國前又沒訂房,到底要住哪裡?“不用訂,”他老神在在的說,“每天下午五點鐘,你看有年輕人在車站遊覽回來,跟著走就找得到青年旅館。便宜啊!”他與背包客同擠20人一間的青年旅館,旅行五個月,全程只花新台幣16萬元。

旅經倫敦時,趙慕鶴寄宿在以前學生家裡,白天學生夫婦上班,他就擦玻璃窗、掃地,打掃完畢便出門旅遊,傍晚回家煮飯;他還取下廢棄木箱的木條,花一星期架起後院的籬笆,幫學生省下1000英鎊的工錢。 “我腦筋動得很快,就是靠這腦筋活!”他笑著說。

趙慕鶴活得精彩,歸因到原點,竟是以死亡為師。他說,“我這輩子就是逃難心理,人生是不停的逃難。”曾歷經抗日戰爭、國共內戰與白色恐怖,九死一生的經歷,讓趙慕鶴認真活在當下,從不閒下來。

現在,他為了方便買車票、看病掛號,開始自習上網、學電腦;因為上網常須打英文,於是他在客廳牆上,貼了一排毛筆寫的常用英文字母,自學英文。

最近兩個月,一位高雄師範的同事剛退休,來家裡拜訪趙慕鶴,看到牆上的英文和桌上的電腦,脫口就說:“老趙,你都要死了,還學什麼電腦?”“可是,我現在還活著啊!”趙慕鶴說完,自己也笑了。

逆時針精神,即打破老或病的框架,不因生理機能的老化而自我設限,因為精彩人生,端看你用什麼心態去創造。

歷時兩個月,我們因製作《百年萬歲──青春老超人》,走訪多位台灣高齡長者,他們完全顛覆我們對銀髮族的刻板印象,令我們大開眼界。

誰說,七十歲後反應變慢,出國自助旅行很危險?八十歲後記憶力變差,電腦、英文,通通學不會?九十歲後骨頭脆弱,不能做高難度動作?一百歲以上太過虛弱,不能獨處,不能出門?
  
錯!唱戲、下腰、練字、讀碩士、學計算機,這群長者身上,彷彿有股逆時針的力量,讓他們突破限制,活出自我,活出熱情。他們,是一群擁有百年生命力的酷老人!

根據哈佛大學心理學教授蘭格研究,當老人把“那怎麼可能?”變成“為什麼不能?”改變自我設限的心態後,只要一星期,八十歲的老人就能變年輕。逆轉的關鍵不在生理,而是心態,積極的心態將使人處於最佳狀態。

“逆時針”的關鍵包括:用心活在當下、擺脫自我限制的心態,以及找回對生活的控制權。

所謂「活得用心」亦即活在當下,把心力集中在手邊的問題。例如,當九十六歲的趙慕鶴要報考研究所時,他想的不是“我都這麼老了,有可能嗎?”而是“要怎麼樣才能考上?”為了考上,他蒐集研究所信息,了解西洋哲學是他的弱項,就挑燈夜戰、虛心求教,一心專注於考試,於是考上。
  
其次,是擺脫自我限制的心態。老了,就一定不中用了嗎?一百零五歲、台灣最年長的鄰長黃闊嘴,勇於嘗試冒險,也是從未讓年紀限制自己的例子。他屬於行動派,做事常忘懷年紀,只考慮自己想不想。七十幾歲時,他首度在海上騎水上摩托車,連年輕人都怕怕的水上拖曳傘,他也要飛上天去看看。快九十歲時,他和小區鄰居一起練陀螺。過了百歲,坐在椅子上,照樣能把大陀螺準確的拋甩出去。

逆時針的第三個原則,是找回對生活的掌控權。像是台灣最高齡乳癌鬥士王東明,從她五十歲發現高血壓開始,便持續記錄血壓的變化,這個小動作幫助她用心參與,為自己的健康建立起一種控制感。那是一種信念與期望,相信只要做一些事情便能有所改變,從而達到目標。

正如同“老”不是瞬間發生,而是在不知不覺間降臨,漫長的老年生活,卻不能到老了才開始準備。用心的積極態度,也必須趁身體還強壯的時候逐漸培養,一步步修正自己的想法與行為。

蘭格博士對逆時針研究做了總結:“如果你任由自己受到心態的限制,不再對活動投入心力,有一天,你才會真的“老”到什麼都做不了。”...

生活中唯一幸福就是不斷前進。

九十八歲老翁趙慕鶴獲得私立南華大學哲學碩士學位,十三日參加畢業典禮獲頒「勤奮向學獎」。這位享受生命、熱愛生活的老大人,是「超級模范老翁」!

趙慕鶴早年畢業山東曲阜師範學院普通科,四十歲來台任教高雄女師,該校改制高雄師範大學,任職總務主任,六十六歲退休。

「生活中唯一幸福就是不斷前進」,兩年前,他考上南華大學哲學研究所。趙慕鶴家住高雄,而南華大學在嘉義大林。兩年來,他過「通學」生活。到校聽課,清晨六時自高雄搭火車至大林,再轉公車到學校。他身體健康,耳聰目明,獨往獨回,從未缺課。

他有生活目標,有自己的喜愛,無憂無慮享受現實生活可愛之處。他說,到南華大學研究所就讀,聽教授講課是最大的享受。

他永遠朝著黎明、青春方面看。他的指導教授陳德和說,趙爺爺上課認真,從不缺課,報告準時交出,學習與求知精神,令人感動。

「老年時像青年時一樣高高興興吧!青年,好比百靈鳥,有他的晨歌;老年好比夜鶯,應有他的夜曲。」人生永遠是可愛的,也可永遠高高興興,向趙慕鶴老大人看齊!

[Ubuntu] How I build up the environment on Ubuntu

In this post, I will use command line so that I do not need to care about the issues caused by different graphic user interfaces.
(Don't be afraid of command line! You can just copy & paste if you are not interested in it.)

Operation System: Ubuntu 12.04
Check the Ubuntu version again
lsb_release -a





Update the system
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Set default editor to vim
sudo update-alternatives --config editor
Enter your passwd








Press 3 (vim.basic) and enter

Set the administrator privilege
sudo visudo
This command uses default editor to open /etc/sudoers to help you check the format.
Assume you want to give administrator privilege to user 'spencer' and group 'adm'







Check the disk
df -h










Setup a shared directory
Assume you want to create a shared directory /home/shared/
(please make sure the parent directory, i.e. /home has sufficient space)

sudo mkdir /home/shared/
sudo chmod -R 777 /home/shared/

Set the default permission for this directory using ACLs (Access Control Lists)
sudo vim /etc/fstab









Add ACL option to /home, which is the parent directory







Then remount it
sudo mount -oremount /home
Now, use the following command to set the default ACL:
sudo setfacl -dm u::rwx,g::rwx,o::rwx /home/shared/
It means that default permission of directories and files under /home/shared/ will be 777 (Everyone can read, write, and execute).
Create softlinks (like Shortcuts on Windows) in every user's home directory (For example: spencer), so that the users can upload their data directly to the shared directory.
sudo ln -s /home/shared/ /home/spencer/shared 
Install the Git
Ubuntu 12.04 is accompanied with git.

But you still to learn how to generate your security key to connect to remote repositories.
ssh-keygen


















Press enter to save the file under default location
Input the password for this key
You will need the content of id_rsa.pub file, use the follow command to copy the content to clipboard.
pbcopy < ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub

Install Python and useful packages
  • iPython
  • Scipy
  • Numpy
  • Matplotlib
Ubuntu 12.04 is accompanied with them.

Install vim plug-ins
  • pydiction
  • taglist
  • NERDtree
Install curl
sudo apt-get install curl

Setup VNC server
Virtual Network Computing (VNC), a way to connect to the GUI.

sudo apt-get install vnc
Setup the vnc password
vncpasswd
Edit your ~/.vnc/xstartup
   #twm
  gnome-session &
Start the your vncserver by this
 vncserver -geometry 1920x1080
then your session would have a window with 1920x1080 volume






For connection, use your favorite vnc client software (RealVNC, UltraVNC, etc), and the port you need to enter is 5900+the display number (1 in this case) = 5901.  You also need to enter the VNC password.
Other Packages for productivity

1. oh my zsh: Another shell with git friendly theme.

    Install zsh
    sudo apt-get install zsh
    git clone git://github.com/robbyrussell/oh-my-zsh.git ~/.oh-my-zsh
    cp ~/.oh-my-zsh/templates/zshrc.zsh-template ~/.zshrc

    Change the default shell to zsh
    chsh -s /bin/zsh
    then restart the machine.
    BTW, if you want your bash shell back, just use this
    chsh -s /bin/bash

    [食譜] 青醬海鮮燉飯 & 焗飯

    這篇要分享的是青醬海鮮燉飯,海鮮當然是看個人喜愛可以自行增減,在這裡我選擇我認為適合的幾種海鮮。

    燉飯一般是建議直接用生米下去煨煮到熟,我這邊煮的也是用這種正統的方式。不過呢!也可以用剩飯直接下去調味,算是清冰箱又簡單的懶人美食,我會在文末FAQ介紹用熟飯的懶人版。

    食材及調味料



















    透抽
    帶殼鮮蝦
    蛤蠣
    鮮蚵
    洋蔥
    蘑菇
    蒜頭
    mozzarella 莫渣瑞拉起司絲(就是去超市買焗烤用的那種起司就對了)
    生米
    義大利麵青醬(我是直接去買現成的,如果有興趣想自己打的話,可以參考這篇
    黑胡椒
    鹽巴
    橄欖油或無鹽奶油

    簡易作法
    1. 洋蔥切碎,蒜頭跟蘑菇都切片,喜歡辣椒的也可以切點辣椒。
    2. 熱鍋熱油後丟蒜片跟洋蔥,蒜味出來以後把蘑菇也丟下去炒香。






















    3. 把洗過的生米倒進鍋子後小炒一下,加水到至少可以蓋過所有材料,並加入青醬和起司攪拌一下。




















    4. 把火力轉小開始燉煮,有蓋子的話更好。
    (如果不想要鍋底有鍋粑的話記得要翻一下喔)




















    5. 米快熟的時候(水還沒完全收乾)鋪上海鮮再悶一下,此時可以加點白酒或米酒。





















    6. 起鍋前的狀態應該是會有點牽絲的,加入一點鹽巴跟黑胡椒調味攪拌一下起鍋(其實
    現成的青醬一般都夠鹹了)。




















    FAQs

    用生米好搞剛喔!如果生米已經煮成熟飯了怎麼辦?
    這更快了!簡單的說就是這樣:
    1. 爆香蔬菜類
    2. 炒海鮮(可加點酒)
    3. 把熟飯、青醬、起司絲丟進去加一點水攪拌一下後小悶一下
    4. 調味起鍋

    海鮮不能先炒嗎?這樣應該更好吃不是嗎?
    當然可以!你可以在爆香完後就先丟海鮮下去炒出香味後,單獨把海鮮盛起備用,最後再放回去悶一下(如果前面不先盛起來的話海鮮煮那麼久都老掉了)。

    我想吃焗烤飯!
    請把它裝在船型碗後鋪上剛剛說的起司絲後丟進烤箱,就這麼簡單。





















    不好意思,什麼是熱鍋熱油?什麼是爆香?
    爆香,簡單的說就是用油把你的蒜阿、洋蔥、薑阿什麼先煎出香氣後以便炒菜。
    然後這個算是爆香sop了(熱鍋->熱油->下料):
    1. 先用最大火力幫你的鍋子加熱
    2. 倒油下去把油加熱到至少你可以看到油紋(出煙的話其實有點過熱了)
    3. 把你的辛香料丟下去快速翻煎,小心不要煎到焦掉喔!

    [Git] Quick tutorial for git on Windows

    This post aims to show a quick guide to install git on a Windows machine, with CLI and GUI, and demonstrate some important commands for a beginner as me to use the git system.


    What is git?
    Git is a distributed version control and software management system, widely used in many software development projects.  The working directory assigned is called repository, with complete history and code tracking capability; a repository can be remote (on server) or local (on hard disk).

    Installation
    Step 1: Install git on Windows box (client)
    Download and install MSYSGIT for basic functionalities (command line and basic gui)


    Step 2: Install GUI
    Download and install TurtioseGit, have a better GUI environment.

    Build local repository
    Right click on the folder icon and click "Git Create repository here..."

    Check the repository using GUI


    Register private remote repository

    Use bitbucket, which provides free private repository in which can be accessed by 5 users at most.
    You can also apply github with a paid account.

    Set your remote url in TortoiseGit





















    Use Puttygen to generate ssh keys





















    Save pubic key as  ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
    Save private key as ~/private_key.ppk
    Copy the public key to your bitbucket (Manage Account -> SSH keys -> Add SSH key

















    Basic usage




























    • Add (Assign which files should be tracked)
    • Git Commit -> "master..." (Make a record in local repository)
    • Show log (Check the version history)
    • Diff (Check what you have added/removed)
    • Push (Upload the repository to remote server)
    • Pull (Download the remote repository to local)
    • Switch/Checkout (restore the early version)
    • Create Tag... (Tag your commit/record)


      Other terms
      1. master: Typically, your latest version will stored in the branch "master"
      2. head: The last commit record

      有時候,就算事實擺在眼前也是得戳瞎雙眼去反對的!

      突然發現該怎麼看待宗教經書裡的神話以及護航的人

      其實不該去找耶穌有沒有復活、有沒有結婚,或是去看佛祖是不是真的是從他媽媽的腋下掉出來的證據;因為那就像跟大家說聖誕老人並不存在一樣,你要剝奪小孩子心中的夢想嗎?我並不認同。換個更生活的例子來說,網路上那麼多的勵志故事,其中捏照自然不在話下,但是一直去吵故事的真實性,而忘了其中帶來的啟示,這不是更愚蠢嗎?

      舉個更實際的例子,小叮噹的結局(維基的簡介在這裡)。即使他實際上並沒有官方結局,你是比較喜歡植物人版還是網路上流傳以久的沒電版呢?我選擇後者,而我也認為這是植物人版沒有、也並不應該出現的原因,就算哪天真的出了官方悲慘版,我還是會大聲的支持電池沒電版的結局。

      宗教也是如此,重點在於信仰所帶來的力量,而不是去找出那所謂的"真相",我第一次接觸到這個觀念的是這部電影: The body,中文翻譯似乎叫做: 聖經保衛戰,片中的故事是在尋找並搶奪耶穌遺骨的過程,看似是反基督,但其實完全相反,其中內容就自己去看吧,在這就先不暴雷和加入太多自己的見解了。

      可嘆阿可嘆~我居然到現在才明白這麼簡單的道理 (至於假借宗教明義行排除異己之實的或滿足私慾的就是另一回事了)。

      結論:我從不相信聖誕老人,但如果有人在大庭廣眾下宣告沒有聖誕老人,我一定也會說他在放屁!

      [食譜] 提拉米蘇 Tiramisu

      這應該是臺灣最知名的義大利甜點了,先不免俗的講一下這名字的典故:
      One of the most famous Italian dessert, let's talk about the story first.

      二戰時期,有個義大利士兵即將上戰場,他的妻子將家中的糕點、蛋黃製品、餅乾、哩哩摳摳的東西混合起來,要給丈夫當乾糧吃,並稱呼它為Tiramisu,即為"帶我走"。
      Around the WWII, when an Italian solider was going to leave home for battlefield, his wife utilized several stuffs including cakes, yolks, cookies for her husband, and named it as Tiramisu, which means 'Pick me up' in English.

      tiramisu這個義大利字拆開來用英文看的話就是
      If we split up Tiramisu, that will be

      tira ~> pick
      mi  ~> me
      su   ~> up

      "Pick me up!" 帶我走,帶上我吧!

      是說...要做乾糧結果做成蛋糕? 這位太太妳只是想用這甜點留住妳阿娜搭吧XD
      Dessert for the battle?  That sounds weird!  Are you kidding, madam?

      食材
      Material
      馬斯卡蹦起司 500g
      Mascarpone Cheese 500g

      Lady's finger
      手指餅乾

      5 Eggs
      生鮮雞蛋五顆

      Americano or Espresso (Double espresso would be better)
      黑咖啡(espresso更好)

      Kahlua (Liqueur)
      Kahlua (卡魯哇)咖啡酒
      改成藍姆酒(Rum)、或白蘭地都可,或是馬沙拉(Masala)酒更好
      You can also add some Rum or Brandy,  Boubon,  or Masala
      寡糖
      Syrup
      通常是用細砂糖,我改用寡糖,健康低熱量
      檸檬
      Fresh lime or lemon (I use lime here) - it is optional
      拿來去腥、增加香氣用的,也可略
      防潮可可粉(會是高脂的喔,別故意去找低脂的)
      Unsweetened cocoa powder




      器材
      Tools
      夠大的盆 (攪拌盆1)
      Bowl 1
      可煮水的鍋子 (攪拌盆2)
      Bowl 2 
      打蛋器
      Mixer
      篩子
      Sieve
      可以拿來攪拌的東西 (我是用木煎匙,飯匙也行)
      Any tool for whipping

      作法

      Method
      主要分兩大部分:mascarpone慕絲體跟手指餅乾夾層
      Tiramisu can be roughly split into 1) mascarpone mousse, 2) Lady's finger plus liqueur
      簡單的說,就是把mascarpone處理一下,然後用沾了咖啡酒的手指餅乾當夾層
      In short, one layer mascarpone mousse, layer lady's finger (w/ liqueur), and so on.
      調配咖啡糖漿
      Sauce for lady's finger
      將放涼的咖啡、咖啡酒、適量的糖混合成可以接受的甜度和香氣
      Mix coffee, liqueur, sugar/syrup

      酒的比例見仁見智,這個版本大概是
      As regarding to the ratio, you can either, as in this post,
      咖啡:咖啡酒:藍姆酒 = 6:1:0.5
      coffee:liqueur:rum = 6:1:0.5
      這是酒很少的比例,吃不出酒味
      想要有酒味的話就把咖啡和酒的比例拉到2:1
      or
      coffee:liqueur:rum = 2:1:0.5
      記得這是"糖漿"喔!可以加點糖調到有點甜
      It is okay if it tasted so sweet, we will not add all of them
      製作mascarpone起司體
      Making mascarpone mousse
      先把mascarpone放拿出冰箱回溫,太冰會很難處理
      Make sure your mascarpone is not too icy
      雞蛋外殼洗過擦乾後分蛋,蛋黃蛋白分開處理,蛋白別碰到水
      將蛋黃放進大的那個攪拌盆,蛋白放另個碗先放回冰箱保冷保鮮
      Split the egg, we are going to work on the yolks first.
      Keep away water from the egg while!

      蛋黃部分
      蛋黃盆加點糖(調味+幫助凝固)
      Put the 5 yolks and syrup into the whipping bowl (Bowl 1)
      煮水煮滾,將盆子拿到鍋子上方用蒸汽加溫打到濃稠變色,
      Use your Bowl 2 to boil some water to produce steam, and
      keeping whipping your yolks on the top of the steam


      這個步驟可以幫助蛋黃加熱殺菌,打發後的蛋黃醬似乎叫沙巴傭?
      Why steam? Sterilization for the raw yolks!  
      記得不要加熱過頭把蛋黃弄熟了喔!
      Please do not make the yolks over-heated!























      可以的話,把這鍋放進冰箱保冷吧!
      Keep whipping until the color turns into skin color, just call it 'sabayon' here
      (FYI. Technically, sabayon should contain wine/liqueur, yolk, and sugar)
      另外,湯鍋的水倒走,鍋子放涼,等等要當第二個攪拌盆用
      也不用這麼克難啦,我是沒有其它可以攪拌的盆子可以用了T.T

      混和mascarpone

      將mascarpone分批(一次全下會很難拌喔)加入蛋黃醬中用匙拌勻
      Mix the mascarpone gradually with the 'sabayon'
      注意!是用"拌"的,不要瘋狂打圈喔
      MIX, NOT WHIP!

      蛋白部分
      Egg While (optional)
      全部就數這最麻煩了,要跳過不用其實應該也行
      Add whipped egg while could bring airiness into the mousse, it is up to you
      剛剛煮水的鍋子擦乾後放入蛋白,並加糖,
      Put the egg while and sugar into Bowl 2 (remember? we already use Bowl 1 for sabayon)
      打蛋器洗淨擦乾後開始使勁的打到發
      也沒什麼技巧,就是用力打用力打,用力的打蛋白就對了
      Keep whipping! GO!
      據說有沾到水或蛋黃就一定打不發?
      To sure there is no extra water or yolk in bowl

      一開始長這樣
      At the beginning
      中間過程會開始產生泡泡
      Add lots of air and produce bubbles


      一直打到最發的"乾性發泡",也就是整鍋倒扣都不會掉下來
      In the end, it will be 'hard peak'.  You can even put the bowl upside down!
      打發後的蛋白似乎叫義大利蛋白霜?

      將打發的蛋白分批拌入剛剛的起司混和物中,加入少許檸檬汁幫助生蛋白去腥,
      Mix the whipped egg white into the 'mascarbone + sabayon'
      Add some fresh lime juice
      不要還沒打發就加下去喔,不然據說會打不發

      剛剛的糖漿也可以混一點進來拌勻
      You can also add some source (liqueur + coffee + syrup)

      到這裡就大致完成了!
      最後就是拿出容器和手指餅乾,開始組裝
      Take out you cup and lady's finger!

      將手指餅乾快速沾上咖啡糖漿,吸的越多就越香,也越甜,
      值得注意的是,手指餅乾吸水性超強,一下子就會吸得爛爛的,
      最後成品會跟外面賣的一下水水的,所以沾個半秒至一秒就差不多了。
      Get the lady's finger wet quickly

      然後就是一層起司一層手指餅乾重複疊上去(有糖那面向下),
      夾層也可以先灑點可可粉,鋪滿鋪平以後就直接放冰箱冷藏至少六小時,
      這可以讓咖啡液手指餅乾和起司體的問到融合。
      One layer of mousse, one layer of soaked lady's finger, you can also sprinkle some cocoa powder between the layers.  Put the cup/container in the refrigerator for six hours at least until set.

      建議要吃的時候再用篩子撒可可粉在表層,這樣口感似乎比較好。

      忘了先鋪平,撒完粉以後才想硬抹平,下場就是表面粉濕濕的很醜...
      這其實是第三版,我怎麼覺得第一版比較好看,可惜忘了拍照

      補充
      蛋黃量越多越可以幫助凝固

      蛋白霜可使起司體更柔順
      Egg white are there are airiness.
      手指餅乾本身就有甜,所以糖漿可以不用調太甜
      The lady's finger themselves are sweet.
      蛋白沒經過加熱殺菌,所以一定要越新鮮越好
      Use fresh eggs, please.
      入味以後可以改放冷凍,要吃之前回一下溫就會像在吃冰淇淋,更有口感。

      [食譜] 川貝冰糖燉梨

      極度簡單,止咳化痰

      食材:
      梨子
      川貝粉
      冰糖
















      器材:
      電鍋
      小湯鍋
      能耐熱的大碗 

      作法:
      梨子削皮,皮鋪碗底















      (皮一定要放,止咳的主要就是靠燉梨子皮燉的湯 )
      梨子去籽後對切或切塊放進碗底
      川貝粉放冷水後煮滾,放入碗中
      (從冷水開始煮喔,不要等水滾才放嘿! )
      整個碗放進內鍋,外鍋加水燉一小時
















      燉好的梨子會呈現半透明狀

















      把湯跟梨子吃掉吧,皮就不用理他了。



      附註:
      1. 梨子生吃的話是冷的,會咳更慘喔~燉過以後才會變溫性的
      2. 川貝是化痰用的中藥,如果沒有痰的話可以不用加
      3. 冰糖是要對抗川貝粉的苦味用的,如果只是要燉梨, 梨子買好一點或許可以不用加。
      4. 川貝粉的份量? 大概是我圖片上那包的一半差不多,不然湯的藥味有點重
          那包五十塊,所以就是一顆大梨子配25塊的川貝粉就是了

      [食譜] 馬鈴薯燉肉

      顧名思義,主角就是馬鈴薯跟肉
      是道超簡單的日式料理
      一般是用油花比較多的肉,用火鍋肉片其實就可以了

      極簡單超懶人調味料食材極少作法(全電鍋版)

      趕時間的就看這個就好

      洋蔥+馬鈴薯+紅蘿蔔切滾刀塊以後放入內鍋鋪底
      上面鋪上豬五花片
      加醬油和水,蓋過食材就差不多了
      至少燉半小時,自己調味
      最後可以灑蔥花


      我的作法


      我用的是牛肉,而且擺明是要煮一鍋吃兩天這樣
      所以用的是牛肋條(相當於排骨),耐燉耐煮。

      材料:

















      牛肋條
      洋蔥三顆
      馬鈴薯三顆
      紅蘿蔔一根
      米酒
      醬油
      冰糖
      蒜頭
      辣椒
      白胡椒粉
      杏鲍菇兩根
      蔥花
      小玉米


      廚具:
      大同電鍋
      電磁爐+小湯鍋
      步驟:
      1. 牛肋條請老闆直接切塊
      2. 川燙*去血水
      3. 剝洋蔥,大片點沒關係
      4. 馬鈴薯切滾刀塊*,也是大塊一點,不然燉久以後都化掉了
      (據說把尖角削得圓滑一點比較不容易化?)
      5. 紅蘿蔔,杏鲍菇也是滾刀塊,小玉米...隨便啦
















      6. 電鍋內鍋蒜頭跟辣椒先爆香,再丟洋蔥跟肉下去拌炒,加點米酒
      補充一: 如果是用油脂比較多的肉,則是肉先下,直接用肉本身的油就好
      補充二: 懶得爆香的話就直接把所有食材都鋪好,肉在最上面,然後交給電鍋處理就好
      7. 倒醬油至差不多蓋過食物,加冰糖(有人是加味碄,但我不想特地去買)
      8. 把其他食材通通丟進去,加水蓋過食材,蓋鍋蓋















      大概半小時左右,就可以吃了



















      味道ok以後,裝碗灑蔥花
      號溝!


      我是另有小電鍋,邊燉肉時就邊煮飯了
      直接就可以泡飯吃了。
















      另外,其實可以全程用電鍋來做,只是川燙以後要洗鍋子就是了
      傢伙越多是越方便,但也不是每樣都要備齊才能上。
      (當然,也是可以只用爐子煮)

      *滾刀塊: 就是不規則塊就是了,反正第一刀亂切,然後刀勢固定,一直轉食物可以了
      *川燙: 去血水用的,排骨類的都要有這步驟,水滾以後丟肉下去,肉很快就會變色,水會有雜質,這時就可以把肉拿起來了,水就倒掉吧!
